Kennedy (whose son, D.J., just wrapped up a fine career at St. John’s) was drafted by the Mavericks, but never appeared in an NBA game. Rosado's career was essentially ended with a torn rotater cuff. He is currently the manager of the San Diego Padres. 1972 was a breakout year for Mayberry, as he hit 25 home runs and 100 RBIs. In the middle of 2008, he was still pitching pretty well, tossing a four hit shutout against Arizona. He played 876 games with the Royals, hitting .289 with 206 doubles, 50 triples, and 69 home runs with 429 RBIs. He averaged just under two innings per appearance. The Royals later became today’s Sacramento Kings following their relocation to the California city in 1985 via a 13 year stint in Kansas City. A tenacious defender, the 6’6” Mickeal averaged 6.8 boards and 1.5 steals a night for Cincinnati. He collected 49 saves in 511 innings pitched, striking out 429 while walking 203. Ten times Splittorff had double figure win totals, and in 1973 he went 20-11 with a 3.98 ERA. The rare player who transfers to one of his team’s fiercest rivals, Keith LeGree arrived in Cincinnati after two seasons at Louisville. In the title game against mighty Ohio State, Bouldin racked up 16 points (outdueling Buckeyes standout Larry Siegfried) in an OT win. Altogether, he hit .299 with 297 doubles and 197 home runs and 837 RBIs. His strength served him even better on the offensive end, where he finished fourth in school history in career scoring (18.8 points a game), third in field-goal percentage (.565) and second in free throws made (571). He would join the Royals in 1970, immediately making the all-star team every year through 1973, then again in 1976. He signed a minor league contract with the Royals prior to the 2011 season, but has yet to make an appearance. He was the hero of the 1961 title game against Ohio State, scoring a team-high 17 points while holding future Hall of Famer John Havlicek to just four. Stuart Symington, a senator from Missouri, demanded a new franchise when the A's left. Mostly a third baseman, he would occasionally fill in at any of the infield positions, and even some of the outfield positions. He did appear in two games for the Spurs, the sum total of his NBA career. His aggressive defense helped him record 60 steals in a season, and his flashy ball-handling and passing earned him 5.2 assists a game over two seasons as a Bearcat. A classic point guard, Eddie Lee didn’t score in double digits until his senior season in Cincinnati. His regular season performance wasn't bad either, he went 14-12 with a 3.42 ERA. The team was founded by Ewing Kauffman, a local entrepreneur. He was an original Royal. He capped his brilliant career by becoming just the fifth Cincinnati player to earn first-team All-America honors from the AP. He was traded to the Royals following the 1986 season, and enjoyed the most productive years of his major league career in Kansas City. The hero of the Bearcats’ most recent Final Four squad in 1992, Nick Van Exel was a first-class scorer at the PG spot. A 6’4” PF back when those were still commonplace, Bob Wiesenhahn anchored the first national championship team in Cincinnati history. David has worked in the broadcast booth for the YES network, broadcasting the Yankees on and off over the last several years. From Ed Jucker’s back-to-back national champs to Bob Huggins’ string of 14 consecutive NCAA berths, the Bearcats have been a team to be reckoned with on the national stage. Otis broke in with the New York Mets in 1967, hitting .178 over parts of two seasons. He pitched 1098 innings in eight seasons, walking 359 and striking out 391. He also walked 316 times and struck out 584 times in 3134 at bats. He hit for power, compiling 193 home runs and 992 RBIs over the years. Splittorff played his entire 15 year major league career with the Royals, making his debut with the club in 1970, going 0-1 in 2 games. He was dealt to the New York Mets just prior to the 1987 season. Cone made his second appearance with the club by signing a free agent contract after the 1992 season. He averaged as many as 31.2 points (second only to Wilt Chamberlain that season) and 9.1 rebounds a game on his way to the Hall of Fame. He had 245 RBIs, while walking 243 times, and striking out 265 times in 1897 at bats. Halfway through the 1976 season he was diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff, an injury that had traditionally ended a pitchers career. The Royals signed him after the Indians released him outright just after the 1985 season started. Had the trey been available to him for all four seasons, he would have amassed even more than the 1,789 points that landed him in fifth place on Cincinnati’s all-time list. He played shortstop with the Royals, making the all-star team in 1972,1976,and 1978. He retired from baseball after being granted free agency following the 1980 season. He allowed four hits and four walks while striking out five in six innings against the California Angels, earning a solid no-decision. He is currently the manager for the Sugar Land Skeeters, a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. In '97, Offerman's season was cut short due to injuries, but he rebounded with a solid '98 season. Before we start looking ahead to next year, let's take a look back at the first 43 years.
